Cup Clarity: A cup of freshly roasted A&E Roastery coffee is the result of time, energy and passion to grow, harvest, process and roast the finest Arabica coffees in the world. These few simple suggestions for storing, grinding and brewing will bring great clarity to your beloved cup of coffee.

Storing: Air, light, and moisture start to deteriorate the flavor of fresh roasted coffee within 2 weeks of roasting. The best environment for extending the rich fresh-roasted flavor of your A&E Roastery coffee is an airtight container away from light and moisture. Odor-free plastic containers and your kitchen cabinet are fine. Avoid the impulse to put your freshly roasted coffee in cold storage (the refrigerator or freezer). These places are moist and carry a variety of odors, which mute the rich flavor of your freshly roasted A&E Roastery coffee.
Remember:

  • Airtight container.
  • Dark, dry location.
  • Ideally, 2 weeks storage maximum.

Grinding: The more oxygen coffee is exposed to, the faster the depletion of aroma and flavor. When coffee is ground, the outer layer of the bean, which protects the interior from oxygen, is broken, and depletion of flavor and aroma occurs immediately. Grind you're A&E Roastery coffee just prior to brewing, and all the flavor and aroma inside the bean will be transferred to your delicious cup of freshly roasted coffee.

Brewing: Coffee strength is the ratio of coffee grounds to water. There is no right or wrong, for it is all based on personal preference. A general recommendation is 1 tablespoon of freshly ground coffee for every 5-6 ounces of water. (A typical mug holds between 10 and 12 ounces.) Regardless of brew method, here are 4 guidelines to brewing great coffee.

1. Grind your coffee right before brewing (ground coffee loses aroma at a rate 10 times faster than whole bean coffee).
2. Use good, clean water (a cup of coffee is mostly water after all!).
3. Brewed coffee tastes best when enjoyed within 20 minutes of brewing, so drink up!
4. Clean your equipment regularly to remove mineral deposits and coffee residue.
